OSCEOLA CEMETERY DURING THE CIVIL WAR
From the book "Bitter Ground" by Kathleen White Miles
In the older part of the Osceola Cemetery, according to John Mills, there is
a space, possibly as large as an acre and one-half in which there are no
markers, other than field stones.
Mr. Mills says he was told by Dr. Ruth Seevers that during the Civil War a
large number of soldiers were buried in this section but if records were
kept, they were lost. There are no tombstones (there was no money or time
for them during the war at Osceola). Because of this, the Osceola Cemetery
Association will not permit burials today in this section of the cemetery.
