Gurganus Description:
The earliest speculated ancestor is Edward Gurgany, d.1619, of Jamestown VA -- but it's not proven that he had any children. The next known Gurganus's migrated from southeastern VA to northeastern NC (Tyrrell, Hyde Counties) in the late 1600's, and are speculated to be the ancestors all other Gurganus's. They migrated to southeastern NC and from there to other states.

There are several Gurganus families, mainly in Martin, Beaufort, and Pitt Counties as early as the mid-1700's, and which are not yet connected to the earlier families who were in Tyrrell and Hyde Counties. DNA test results should be able to prove that these families have a recent common ancestor.

All known Gurganus information, or at least all known to me, is collected at http://www.gurganus.org
