3.  Why did you join the Lost Colony project?

Trying to find out when ancestors came to America. We are stopped in research around 1800.  Also there are family stories that there is Cherokee connection, but I cannot find it.  My hope was that we could find out for sure if our Griffin family was part of the original NC colonists, and hopefully some names and dates to confirm the connections.  In addition we had hoped that the DNA would confirm the Cherokee connection, however this has not been the case. All matches have been distant and far flung. 

 

  1. How is your Y-line DNA line connected to the colonists, the surnames, Native people or the location? 

 

Trying to figure out if our Griffin line goes back to the original colonists of North Carolina, as that is where we have found the earliest connection.  Also, both great grandfather and great grandmother were reported to be part Cherokee.  Mollie White (great-Grandmother) was said to be half Cherokee, but we can’t verify that.  We would like to know if our ancestors are from the eastern Cherokee tribe.

My father’s family originates in TN, and NC.  We have had a great deal of difficulty finding much information beyond 1800, and verifying much of the information that we have found.  We are on Ancestry.com under AKmom, and have made little connection to other family trees, where on my mother’s side we have found information back to 1640. 

I will attach our pedigree for both mother and father’s family.
