SSW: Robert D. - Inscription: "See Me In Spokane" - Research Note: NOT BURIED HERE, unless the obit is wrong. - Robert Allison married Jacqueline Hilderbrand on Dec. 3, 1948 in Jefferson Co., OR, who was a daughter of Dennis Daniel Hilderbrand and Lillian "Hevowah" Falkner. She and her parents were listed on the U.S., Indian Census Rolls, 1885-1940. Apparently wrote her own obit. - The trail was long and it came to an end on March 3, 2011, at 12:15 a.m. There was "My Bob" standing there with the Lord to greet me. My journey began on Dec. 13, 1928, as the first-born to Lillian and Dennis Hilderbrand in the first hospital built in Fort Defiance, Arizona on the Navaho Indian Reservation. My wanderings had me living in Arizona, Idaho, Texas, and then in Oregon, where Bob and I met and wed. We lived, worked and retired in Long Beach, Calif., and then moved to Cassville in 1983. My working years started in the late 1950s as a medical receptionist for a private practice in Long Beach, Calif., and ended with H and R Block in Cassville in the spring of 2003. Special thanks for the care she received at the Waterford on the South Hill, Sacred Heart Medical Center, to all the wonderful doctors, and their personnel who attended to her these past seven years. A "Celebration of Life" will be held March 10 at noon at Riplinger Funeral Home, 4305 N. Son of Joseph Allison and Amanda Pierce. - Cassville Republican, Thursday, Jan 26, 1911- Oak Ridge News: Following a long illness, J. W. Allison died at the home of his son, Ed Allison, on the J. E. Pilant farm, north of town, 11 miles, Jan. 16, 1911. For months Mr. Allison had been in ill health and gradually gave way to his complication of troubles. He was taken to the home of his son, Ed, that he might be well cared for. J. W. Allison was about 67 years of age and had lived about Cassville for many years where he was held in highest respect, being a quiet, upright industrious citizen and Christian gentleman. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. W. Ennes and interment made in the Pilant Cemetery. The bereaved family consists of a wife, two sons, Edward, and Price, and two daughters, Mrs. Marion Hesse, east of town, and Mrs. Wm. Marriage record has Right. Mary A. Wright married Joseph W. Allison on Nov. 8, 1866 in Cooper Co., MO. Mrs. Mary Allison, age 61, married Walter A. Anderson, age 78, on Dec. 10, 1914 in Barry Co., MO. She was the widow of Walter Anderson. Her name was Anderson when she died but buried under Allison. Bud Allison of Cassville, MO, was the informant. She was 92 years old and cause of death was fracture of the neck from falling off a chair. - Sept. 1933, Cassville Democrat - Mary Ann Wright was born in Kentucky. She died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Will Dodge, in Cassville, at the ripe old age of 92 yrs, 2 mo, and 11 days. When only a small child, she came to Cooper Co, Mo, with her parents, where she grew to womanhood. On Nov. 9, 1866 she was united in marriage to Joseph Warren Allison. To this union 5 children were born. One died in infancy, and a few years ago daughter Mrs. Marion Hassee passed away. After the death of her husband, Mr. Allison, she was married to Walt Anderson, who lived only a short time. She professed faith in Christ in early life, united with the Baptist Church and remained in this faith until death. She is survived by children Mrs. Mattie Dodge, Bud and Ed Allison, 14 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren plus many friends. Anderson died very suddenly Friday morning and was buried at Pilant Cemetery Saturday afternoon. - Nov. 4, 1915, Cassville Republican - Pioneer Citizen Crosses Over: Walter Anderson, one of the oldest citizens of this county , died at his home NE of Cassville, Friday morning, Oct. 29, at the age of 79 years and 7 days of heart failure. Mr. Anderson had been in good health until Sunday when he was taken sick but head not been bad and his condition did not appear serious. Friday morning he got up and had breakfast and said he was feeling well. His half brother, Jack Anderson, who had been helping wait on him since he had been sick states that he told him Friday morning to go to town for some more medicine but to tell his physician that he had no pain and was feeling better than for some time. His brother started to town and before reaching here was called by phone and informed that Mr. Anderson had passed away suddenly after he left. Walter Anderson was born west of Washburn, then Keetsville, in Barry County, Oct. 22, 1836. When only a small child his parents moved to Benton County, AR. They lived in Benton and Washington counties until after the Civil War. Mr. Anderson served in the Confederate army during the war and soon after peace was made, possibly sometime in the seventies, he moved to this county and located near Cassville and continued to live here until his death. He had been married three times, his last wife, Mrs. Mary Allison, survives him. He had no children. He leaves four half brothers, Jack, Vanus, Robert and William Anderson, all of Cassville. Mr. Anderson was one of the county's most substantial citizens. He had been a successful farmer. Was a man of unquestioned integrity and always stood firmly for what he believed to be right. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J. W. Ennes and interment made at the Pilant cemetery north of Cassville. - Cassville Republican, Nov. 4, 1915, Thursday - Anderson's Will Probated: The will of Walter Anderson has been filed for probate in the office of Probate Judge Landis. The will bears the date of July 4, 1914. It gives all of his property, both real and personal to I. N. Wirts, whom Mr. Anderson reared, and of whom he thought of as a son. W. H. Martin, cashier of the First National Bank of Cassville, was named in the will as executor. It is thought that the property left will inventory about $4,000 to $5,000. A later will had been drawn a short time before Mr. Anderson's death by his attorney, J. S. Dortha received a bachelor's degree in education from SW MO State University. She was a charter member of Kappa Delta Phi, Delta Kappa Gamma, a 30-year member of the MO State Teacher's Association plus a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church. She was a retired school teacher. On Dec. 26, 1948 Dortha and Leonard were married. To this union 6 children were born: Lynna, David, Richard, Timothy, Steven, and Sarah. Additional survivors include brothers Arthur and Lewis, 8 grandkids, many cousins, nieces, nephews, plus a host of other relatives and friends. Dortha will be dearly missed by all who knew her. On December 26, 1948, in Exeter, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Dortha Pilant, who preceded him in death on December 15, 1993. Also preceding him in death were his parents; an infant sister, Betty Jewel; one brother, Laurance Beeson and two brothers-in-law, Ray Harris and Earl Lyall. Surviving are six children. Leonard received his education at Forest Grove Grade School and graduated from Cassville High School in 1941. After high school Leonard followed the wheat harvest in Kansas and Colorado, then went to Oregon to work in the logging industry. From November, 1942 through January, 1946, he served in the United States Navy as a signalman aboard the USS Custer, a troop transport in the Pacific Theater of WW II. His wife was Josie Elberta (Sears) (Black) Long, listed on this page as Josie Long. - Cassville Republican Oct. 30, 1919 - Circuit Court: Elberta Black vs. Jacob Black, divorce. - Cassville Republican, May 10, 1934 - Following a brief serious illness, B. J. Black, generally known in this community as "Babe" Black, passed away Saturday afternoon, May 5, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Harper, age 69 years. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. R. M. Patrick and Rev. Erickson. Burial was made in the Pilant Cemetery northeast of Cassville one mile in the community in which Mr. Black had spent most all his life. The Horine-Culver Funeral Service had charge. Mr. Black was born at Rolla, Feb. 8, 1865. He was a son of the late Jake Black. Soon after his birth the family moved from Rolla to what is now known as the Black community northeast of Cassville on Flat Creek. B. J. continued to live there all his life. He was a very quite, unassuming man and a good citizen. Research Note: Jacob was the first son of William M. Black and Jane Sellers Miller. His wife was Mary Jane Kirkpatrick. His headstone is reported to be a victim of vandalism. Black, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mack Black of near Cassville. This letter is the first news his parents had received from their son for months and they were very uneasy about him. - American Expeditionary Forces, February 6, 1919 - Dear Mother: I am getting along fine. Am enjoying the best of health. I have not written a letter in so long I know you are worrying about me. When the Armistices was signed another soldier comrade and I said we would not write any more as we thought we would soon start for home but now we have changed our minds. We see that we did not get to start home as soon as we thought we would. We are now sorry that we have not written sooner. I am doing police duty on the battlefield. I believe that we are through with that duty now but I do not know for sure. It is certainly is a sight to look over these battlefields. I am sure glad we came up here. I landed at Brest when we reached France. Then went to Saintmazaier, from there to Vanes, from Vanes to Toul and now we are around in the Toul sector. You spoke of Albert writing to me. I have never received his letter. Maybe will be home for the Fourth of July, but of course I do not know. I will write to you more often now. - Marion J. Black, Co. B 7th A. M. T. N. - Mr. and Mrs. Black have another son, Albert, who is also with the American Army in Europe. Writing to them several weeks ago Albert tells of his experience at the front. He said among other things, "I was at the front several days and you may be sure it was quite a place. The Germans seemed to be glad to see us come. They sent over heavy shell fire but didn't hurt any of us. Shells bursted all around me. While we were seeking shelter from their shells in the basement of a building, shells came through the roof. When we were sent out as a working part to do some work that had to be done, shells bursted so close to me they threw dirt all over me. They were close enough for me. One night we were sent over to the German trenches. We must have gone down the trench for 100 yards before we saw a German. They discovered us and threw hand grenades. One struck the top of the trench right by me and I was covered with dirt. We all were lucky in getting back." He grew up on his family's farm on Flat Creek, where, as a child, he attended Black School. He graduated from Cassville High School in 1945 and was united in marriage to Lilas Towe, his high school sweetheart, on Feb. 2, 1948. She preceded him in death in 2007. Black died at his home northeast of Cassville Wednesday, June 8, 1910, of a complication of troubles, age 76 years. Until a few weeks ago "Uncle Robert" as he was familiarly called, had been in remarkably great health for a man of his age. He was often spoken of as one of the strongest old men in the country, continuing to do his own work. Robert Black had been a citizen of the county since 1852, coming here when a young man from Hamilton County, Tenn., where he was born and reared. He was another of this country's pioneers who has answered the call to the great unknown. He leaves a wife, two daughters, Mrs. Thomas Robberson, and Miss Ida Black, three brothers W. C. He responded to a suspicious vehicle call and was shot in the head before he could exit his patrol vehicle. His assailant was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to death. He was executed by lethal injection on March 17th, 2015. A stretch of State Highway 112 between Cassville and Roaring River State Park was named in his honor. - CASSVILLE, Mo. - Christopher Lee Castetter, 29, Cassville, died at 1:08 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 28, 1996, in Springfield, from a gunshot wound while serving in the line of duty as a deputy in the Barry County Sheriff's Department. Mr. Castetter was born July 17, 1967, in Indianapolis, Ind. He attended schools in New Smyrna Beach, Fla. He moved to Cassville in 1988 from Grayslake, Ill. He worked at Emerson Electric, Rogers, Ark., for five years before he worked at the sheriff's Department. He was graduated from Missouri Southern State College Police Academy, Joplin, and was a member of the Missouri Fraternal Order of Police, Joplin. He married Christine Anne Schultz on Sept. 10, 1988, in Cassville. Additional survivors include three daughters; his father and stepmother, James William and Judith Anne Castetter II, New Smyrna Beach; his mother, Judy Glaze, Seligman; three brothers; two half-brothers; a stepbrother; two stepsisters; and a grandson. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Cassville High School Gymnasium. The Rev. Sammy Flores will officiate. Burial will be in Pilant Cemetery, Cassville. Cooper in the Black School district, northeast of this city died Monday morning of paralysis and old age, age 92 years. He left one son and three daughters and a second daughter. He formerly resided at or near Exeter. The remains were interred in the Pilant Cemetery, Monday evening. George Eubanks was 88 years old and had been a member of the Christian Church for years. He left a second wife, who attended him during his last sickness. His daughters Mesdames Prater of Pierce City, Waddle of Blue Jacket, Okla., and Kallem of Vinita, Okla., attend the funeral for their father and furnished an elegant casket and saw that he was laid away as they desired. Rev. E. A. Frost conducted funeral services Tuesday afternoon. Research Note: According to his death certificate he was married and a farmer. B. J. Black of Cassville, MO was the informant. He was found dead and cause of death probably heart trouble. He was a son of David Hardy Medlin, born TN and Leah Lydia Lewis, born AL. His wife was Delilah Catherine Whittington, born MO. Alfred M. Medlin married Delilia Catherine Whittington on Dec. 28, 1880 in Stone Co., MO. She second married Levi Thompson and died in 1952 in OR. - March 18, 1915, Thursday, Cassville Republican - Alfred Medlin, who since December last, has been living at the home of D. J. Black, was found dead in a road near the Pilant farm, north of town, Friday about 12:30 o'clock. Medlin had left Black's home and was on his way to Frank Moore's home when death occurred. He had formerly lived with Frank Moore and family for some months. Justice of the Peace, H. P. Sons held an inquest and a verdict was reached that Medlin's death was other similar cause. SSW: Sarah A. - Research Note: Parents not named on the death certificate. Agnes Wiseman of Rural Cassville, MO was the informant on the death certificate. Son of Mr. Newman and Carolina Carpy (Reynolds) (Newman) Hindes. - September 28, 1916, Thursday, Cassville Republican - Oscar Newman, who lives on the Arnaud place, south of Monett, is in the county jail charged with forgery. Mr. Newman admits that he forged the note in question. He wrote a check on the Monett National Bank for three dollars in favor of H. A. James and signed the name of H. S. Horine. He took the check to J. G. Medlin's grocery store where he traded it for the value in groceries. When the check was presented at the bank, they refused to accept it saying the signature was not that of Mr. Horine. Investigation showed that Newman had presented the check and endorsed it as H. A. James so the arrest was made. At the hearing before Justice E. A. O'Dwyer, Wednesday, Newman confessed his guilt, waived preliminary examination and was bound over to the November term of Circuit court. Being unable to furnish bond, Sheriff Brixey took him to the county jail, Thursday. Newman said the reason he forged the check was because his family was hungry and needed supplies. He has a wife and several children and they are in poor circumstances. Mrs. Pilant had been in ill health for several years. She was a member of the Cassville Church of Christ. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Myrl Coatney of Fairview, Mrs. Clifford Keeling of Joplin, Mrs. Paul Wieland of Carterville, and Mrs. Beeson; two sons, Arthur Pilant of Dallas, Texas, and Lt. Col. Lewis Pilant serving with the Army in Germany; a brother, Harve Lowe of Cassville; a sister, Mrs. Fannie Bradley of Cassville and 34 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Culver Chapel as Cassville with Rev. Ab Edie and Rev. Paul Watson officiating. Ursula Catherine Pilant married Joseph Campbell on Jan. 25, 1887 in Barry Co., MO. - Cassville Republican, April 23, 1914 - Mrs. Catherine Pilant, who had been living in the vicinity of Cassville for a number of years, died Wednesday morning, April 15, 1914, from pneumonia. The deceased was born in Tennessee 67 years to her parents, the late Tillman and Elizabeth Edwards. For a number of years the family lived near Purdy where the deceased grew to womanhood. She was married to H. L. Pilant and to his marriage were born two children, Albert Pilant, who has been taking care of his mother, is the surviving member of the family. She also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Marion Roller and Miss Bell Edwards of near Purdy. The funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the Pilant Cemetery where her body was laid to rest. Mr. Vaughan took hold of her feet to roll her over, when a playful colt, two years old, ran up and gave him a kick that sent him skyward onto a wing of the stack. He slid back on to the feet of the mare, who gave him another boost with her feet and sent him out of reach of further danger. He got up very sore, but thankful for his life. - April 5, 1894, Thursday, Cassville Republican - There was but little interest in the horse show Monday, but five horses being shown. They were W. H.
