Notes for George Franklin Gathright

Grand Junction Daily Sentinel, 27 Dec 1995, p. 10 (obtained from Newspapers.com):

George F. Gathright
July 28, 1906 -- Dec 26, 1995

George Franklin Gathright of Parachute died of natural causes Tuesday in the E. Dene Moore Memorial Home in Rifle. He was 89.

Services will be at a later date.

Mr. Gathright was a chef and had his own restaurant in Texas for many years. He was a resident of Rifle for 1½ years.

He was born July 28, 1906, to Jessie and Cordie Sadrick [sic] Gathright in Fort Worth, Texas. He attended school in Dill City, Okla.

He married Mildred Oliver Adams on April 25, 1938, in Clovis, N.M. She survives.

Mr. Gathright had lived in Texas and Oklahoma before moving to Parachute.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting for rocks and lapidary work.

Other survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Charlette and Conrad Pascuzzi of Eagle and Colleen Kline of Glenwood Springs, a son and daughter-in-law, William and Maribel Bryant of Melbourne, Fla., four grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.

Sowder Funeral Home in Rifle is in charge of arrangements.

The obituary above says that he was born in Fort Worth, but that is almost certainly wrong. A memorial card from his funeral says that he was born in Pilot Point, which is in Denton County, TX. However, some notes by Ila Haralson, obtained on 13 May 2017 from Betty Haralson, say that "Lois Evelyn and George were all born in Denton County Texas about 8 miles southeast of Pilot Point Texas, near Mustang.
