PROJECTS
Over the years,
NEMGS has been active in many projects. Besides many
publications (see next page for those available),
projects include helping with the indexing of Michigan
death records, and helping with the Civil War indexing
project. We have been involved in microfilming area
churches, cemeteries, and vital records. We filed and
indexed the glass plate negatives of the Van Nocker
studio. We continue indexing vital records, cemeteries,
and newspapers.
MEMBERSHIP
Membership in
Northeast Michigan Genealogical Society is available to
anyone interested in genealogy. Networking with other
genealogists is an excellent way to further ones own
research.
Benefits of membership are many. They include: a
newsletter (published four times a year), notice of
meetings and special events, a chance to volunteer in
worthwhile projects, a twenty percent reduction in the
price of publications when purchased at monthly meetings,
as well as the advantages of meeting with other
genealogists. Members will also receive information
regarding the Michigan Genealogical Councils annual
seminar and other similar events.
Members are encouraged to volunteer for ongoing projects
in the society, to deposit their family history in the
unpublished manuscript collection, to submit articles as
well as queries for publication in the newsletter, and to
participate in meetings.
The society is affiliated with the Michigan Genealogical
Council and the Federation of Genealogical Societies.
Everyone interested in working on family history is
encouraged to join the Northeast Michigan Genealogical
Society.
Dues (by the calendar year) are $10 for an individual
membership, $12 for a family membership, and $180 for a
lifetime membership.
