Since you e-mailed me I have dug in to my husband's family a little deeper. His grandfather Robert Lee DeBusk was born Jan.7, 1887 in Claiborne Co.TN.  Tazwell is always the name of the city near where he lived. His parents were George Mayes and Achah Florence DeBusk. Achah being born in Virginia according to his death certificate. The story is that his father either died or left and Robert went to live with his
mother's brother.He was then either adopted or just took on the last name of the uncle. This name Achah is not very common. Let me know what you think or if you see any connection.

 On Robert's death certificate the father is listed as George Mayes. He named his second son George, which was my husbands father. I found the name spelled MAYES on an 1880 census. I found Achah Florence DeBusk on familysearch.org Ancestral File. As far as the DeBusk line goes, your info looks like theirs. There was no added info for Achah. This marriage thing is interesting.

I know Robert had a older brother named Andrew and a younger sister named Mary. Robert Lee was b. Jan.7, 1887, d.  May 20, 1980. Andrew was married twice, died in mining accident.

 Well, I wish I knew more about this family.This is my husband's side. His grandfather was adopted by the DeBusks as a young boy. I was told that we might be able to find some kind of adoption record in Tazewell TN.

I will tell you what is known. Robert DeBusk was born in the 1880's. l have his obituary but not here. We know he had a brother Andy who was killed in a mining accident in Kentucky? He had a sister and another 1 or 2 brothers.

I'm sure we would have to have the name of the father and mother to be able have a search for the adoption done. I don't think there has been much concern as far as the DeBusk name goes as much as wanting to know the blood line.(name). The woman that Robert married was raised by an aunt or grandmother. So, going back to the 1880's is about where my husband's paternal side of the family stops.
