Clifton, Penobscot Co., Maine bounds: Bradley, Amherst, Mariaville, Otis, Dedham, Eddington. Previous designation Maine, Jarvis Gore, The Gore East of Brewer. Settled in 1812. Part set off to Eddington in 1823. Incorporated 7 Aug 1848 as Maine the 378th town. Name changed to Clifton on 9 June 1849.
