Previous designation f Benedicta is the west half of 2R5 WELS and was settled in 1834. Benedicta
was incorporated on 1 Feb 1873 as the 432nd town in Maine.
The town was named in the hour of Bishop Benedict Fenwick, of Boston, MA, who purchased it of the State of
Massachusetts. Settled by David and Joseph Leavitt. The town was disorganized Feb 1987. This was a
Catholic Township in 1837.
