Message Board or Query tips

When you send in a genealogical query, there a few basic points to cover:

• put in as much information about the person you are making the query about as possible. 
• name:  should be capitalize and bold (variant spellings should be indicated in full in brackets)
• dates: month should be noted as DMY; and the month should be written in full rather than numeric format to avoid errors; the year should be listed in full rather than abreviated; if possible include birth, death, marriage, arrival in Canada or the area covered by this GenWeb site
• places: try to include full place names incluing municipalities, provinces, counties, states, and countries if they apply; also include physical addresses 
• names of relatives (e.g., wife, husband, parents, siblings, children), if relevant

Make sure you proofread your query:

• Spelling should be checked
• Proper nouns should be uppercase
• Puctuation should be double checked
  

If you send out a general request for help, you probably will not get much help, and your query could be deleted.  To ensure an answer please make your enquiry as specific as possible.
