The March 2007 meeting of the Lafayette Genealogical
Society was held in the Meeting Room
of the
Main Branch of the Lafayette Public
Library
on March 15, 2007 at 6:30 P.M. The meeting was called to order by President
Charles Patterson. A moment of silence was observed and the
Pledge of Allegiance was given.
Julaine Deare Schexnayder was introduced
and she spoke to the members about
the crisis
at the Patoutville Cemetery where three
or
four dozen historic vaults are slated
for
destruction if no family members are
found
that will make a claim and assume responsibility
for restoration and maintenance. Friends of the Historic St.Nicholas Cemetery
in Patoutville has been formed to locate
descendants of those buried there and
inform
them of the situation. Some of the names of those that need identification
are Derouen, Gary, Louviere, and Lyons. Posters with pictures of the tombs slated
for destruction were on display. Reports and updated news may be found at

The Minutes of the February meeting are on
the society�s web site. Due to the absence of the treasurer, that
report will be given at a later date.
Speaker for the meeting was member Earl Gates
who gave a PowerPoint presentation
on �Using
Familysearch.Org.�
There was not any old business to cover. Genealogy 101 will continue on the first
Saturday of May(5 May 2007) at the
Main Branch
of the Lafayette Public Library in
the Genealogy
Section on the second floor. The topic for May will be �Using Maps.�
There being no further business, the meeting
was adjourned.
