Services We offer


Monthly Meeting

We hold meetings on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM, in the South Regional Lafayette Public Library located at 6101 Johnston Street. This is with the exception of the month of December, which is when we have our annual membership banquet. Our meetings are open to the public and generally include a main presentation or a genealogical class in order to help further family history research.

Monthly Newsletters

We have a monthly newsletter sent via email/or US Postal Service to the members of our society about the time of each meeting. It includes minutes of our meetings, as well as information on upcoming speakers or classes. Click here to see the minutes of our meetings

Area Society Listings

Volunteers from the group try to maintain an updated list of Louisiana societies to maintain an updated list including addresses, phone numbers, and special collection information. Click here to see the society listings.

Publishing Genealogical Data on the Web

We provide assistance to members of our society in publishing their family history on the web with varying of levels of assistance being offered.

Research Assistance

Volunteers from our society meet on the 1st Saturday of each month from 9:00-12:00 at the Lafayette Public Library in order to help patrons of the library with genealogical needs. We will make a presentation on various genealogical subjects to help individuals with their research. These presentations are made starting at 9:30 AM in the Meeting Room. Following the presentation members will be available to assist with questions and advise. Click here for more.

In addition, our society provides minimal research of Lafayette Public Library's holdings and area repositories. This service is for a small fee, payable to the Society.

Research Queries in The Acadian Area


The Lafayette Genealogical Society provides minimal research of Lafayette Public Library's holdings and area repositories. In addition many of our members are researching the Cajun names of this area and could possible help you link your ancestors. Your brick wall may have already fallen. This service is free, but a contribution to the Society would be appreciated.

Yearly Publication

"Les Memoirs" is our yearly publication and is handed out to our members at our annual member's banquet. If a member is unable to attend our yearly banquet, A copy of "Les Memoires" will then be mailed to you.
