Minutes of the Lafayette Genealogical Society

June 16, 2011

On June 16th, 2011, Lafayette Genealogical Society monthly meeting was called to order by President Brenda Fuselier with the Pledge of Alligence and a moment of silence for all those who have or is serving our country.

Renee Boullion and Wayne and Annette Tweedel were introduced as visitors and/or new members.

Earl Gates, LGS member, did a presentation on the researching of newspapers and other sources. He stated that you can find a world of information from births, weddings, anniversaries, deaths and accomplishments published in newspapers. He said that Dupre Library on the UL Campus has all the old area newspapers on microfiche. Other sources were Findagrave.com, Mocavo.com, and Google.com. Also contacting the Genealogy Society in the town of the ancestor you're searching is the best way to begin.

Martha Landry stated that The Daily World in St. Landry Parish had a lot of available information.

Table for the Great Awakening in October will be reserved for the 13th, at a cost of $200.00. Stephen White, noted author, will be LGS' guest speaker Saturday, October 15th, at the South Regional Library in the auditorium.

Pat Synder motioned to adjourn, Rogers Romero seconded. Meeting adjourned and member and guests enjoyed refreshments.
