STAMPING GROUND BAPTIST CHURCH

The Stamping Ground Baptist Church cemetery is located at Stamping Ground.  The date of the first burial is uncertain.
The first survey of this cemetery known was taken on September 27, 1955, by J. W. Singer.  Additional information was
furnished by Mr. Hainer Northcutt. At the time the cemetery was in a neglected condition, overgrown with briars and vines.
 It was almost completely filled with with graves, but many of them were marked only by field stones without inscriptions.
To facilitate clearing and mowing several wagon loads of these stones were hauled away, leaving only those graves
marked which had names.  This list located at the KY Historical Society Library is typed and very light and hard to read.
Gone, Forgotten, Now Remembered: Scott County, Cemeteries, 1992, the next survey performed records the oldest burial
in 1860.  There is a DAR memorial stone for Capt. John Scott and his wife Hannah.  John a charter member of the Stamping
Ground Baptist Church died on November 20, 1815. However; it is stated the Scott's are buried about 3 miles south in a
family cemetery.
