BRICK WALLS

A brick wall in genealogical terms refers to those lines in which we have researched as far as we can and cannot get past a certain individual.  We have exhausted all possible means in order to find our elusive ancestor yet still we lack that one vital link that will enable us to break down the brick wall.

This page is for the purpose of listing our brick walls in hopes that another researcher will visit and be able to provide the means for breaking down those walls. Wherever possible, we have included the contact information for those researchers who have posted their brick walls for help - please send your help and information to those people listed. If there is a problem with their contact info, you may email what you have to the webmaster HERE, but there are no guarantees your info will make it to the other person, if that person's info is out of date. We will do our best!

David Dixon:

I am trying to find the parents of Cynthia Ann Dixon born 1828 in Kentucky . She married James Stafford. There are quite a few Dixons in Johnson county but I can't attach her to anyone. Any help would be appreicated.

My brick wall is Martelia Sayler b ca 1806 Johnson co., KY.  Martelia was also known as "Tealie" and as " Satira". m. 12 April 1879 Andy J. Castle, son of William Castle and Mary Jane Davis.

As you will notice, some of these people have the same birth year.  I am not
sure of their exact year.  Chances are they were born starting in 1890.  I am
only guessing.

Right now my brick wall is finding out who are the parents are of Robert
Stapleton who married Martha Cochran and perhaps her parents too. Their son,
Samuel Norman Stapleton married Eulah Lemaster Feb. 18, 1926.

At this time my brick wall is finding Jennie Ely/Ealey born 1886 and married Ernest Butler/Dixon in Johnson Co KY.  Parents of Ernest Butler/Dixon are Mary Alice Dixon and James Butler.  Also need married names of their children born in Johnson or Martin Co KY.  They are:  Gracie Dixon, Hattie Marie Dixon, (F) Tommie M. Dixon, Lizzie Dixon and Clara B. Dixon.  Jennie Ely/Ealey is the daughter of William Henry Ely and Sarah Caroline Caudill - twin sister of Rebecca Catherine Caudill that married James Lewis "Luke" Blevins of Johnson Co KY.

Louella Davis :

My brick wall is James Davis b. abt. 1792, married Levina Haney. She
could be his second wife. They were married in Lawrence Co., KY in 1822.

My Brick Wall is George W. Blanton b. abt. 1775 in VA [possibly Powell's Valley area] d. 1860 Blanton Branch, Johnson Co., KY and his spouse, Martha (Mary) Shepherd b. abt. 1777 in Powell's Valley, VA, d. abt 1862 in Johnson Co., KY issue: Mary  b. abt 1795 VA Sara Elizabeth b. abt 1796 VA Angelina b. abt 1800 VA Rachel b. abt 1810 VA, d. aft. 1880 Johnson Co., KY Lucinda b. abt 1811 VA George Washington b. abt 1813 VA , d. aft. 1880 Fleming Co., KY; William Emerson b. abt 1814 VA Alsey b. abt. 1816 VA Martha b. 12/8/1817 Lee Co., VA James Henry  b. 1/25/1820 VA, d. 8/5/1905 Johnson Co., KY Cannot find documented proof of parentage for George &  Martha.  I'm hoping that someone researching these lines will have the missing link.

Patrick Steele:

My brick wall is as follows: James Brown m. Angeline Brown, Henry C. Brown (1882-1936) m. Clara Kersey (1887-1948).  Henry was born in Johnson County. His death certificate lists his parents as above. Can anyone help me?

JOHN M. HALL b. 1822 in NC d. Coal (Meally, KY) 1913 married three(3) times. I cannot locate the date of death and burial of his wives: #1 Susannah/Susan Gobble/Goble b. 1885 in Wash Co., VA died between 1880 & 1884 buried UNK #2 Mary Jane Lilly b. UNK d. UNK buried UNK #3 Martha Phelps b. Oct. 1869 in VA d. between 1900 census and 1910 census buried UNK. All should be around the Meally-Martin Co. area.

My brick wall is the wife of Cornelius Baker. Sacha, Sotia, Soshie, Socia, Sarah Hamon/ Hammond. Cornelius Baker and Socia Hamon were married in Letcher County, KY. Son William Baker married Julina Bowen and Ella Hubbard. Julina was daughter of Daniel Bowen and Cynthia Mullett.   They are in Johnson County in 1870.   Cornelius Baker was son of Richard Baker and Abigail Beverly.   Does anyone have any clues to Socia/ Sacha Hamon's parents?  Thank you
