Johnson County, Kentucky was established in 1843, with Paintsville as the county seat, and named in honor of Col. Richard M. Johnson. Before Johnson County came into existence, its people resided in Floyd County, Lawrence County and Morgan County. One day its people were in their home county and seemingly overnight they became citizens of Johnson County. What appears as though our ancestors were always moving could very well have been the result of the changing boundaries around them.
