William Joseph Smith
Dad was born 11 June 1931 in Covington, Kentucky to Alvia and Lillian (Taaffe) Smith. He was raised in Covington, Ky. After school he started his own business in Interior decorating with his brother, Carl Smith. William married Irene Oleen Traylor and after their second child they moved to southern California.
We moved back in 1971 to be with family because Dad's parents had died in the late 1960's and they wanted their children to get to know their family before everyone died. He worked for Hostess/Wonder Bread as a driver for over 20 years before an accident left him unable to work for over a year.
Dad had always dreamed of buying a farm out here in Kentucky. He bought his cherished farm on Plumber/Daniel Road in California, Ky. in 1971. We raised the usual farm animals, tobacco, and various vegetables for our own consumption. He was the former owner of Florence Storm Door and Window company. A very successful business here in Florence, Ky. Dad died of Colon/Liver cancer 26 Aug 1986 at Holmes Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio but was living in California, Kentucky at the time.
