She was born in New York, and died before 1835 in Campbell Co. He married (2) MARY 'POLLY' DILCE Sep 13, 1835 in Campbell Co. She died Jul 30, 1847 in Campbell Co. He married (3) MARGARET ANN TOWNSEND Nov 15, 1847 in Campbell Co. She was born 1834 in Kentucky and died Feb 06, 1915 in Covington, Kenton Co and was buried in the Linden Grove Cemetery.

Notes for MARGARET ANN TOWNSEND:
Margaret Ann Townsend married James Spalding when she was 13 years old (per her
granddaughter, Lula May Franks McNamara). They lived in Alexandria and Newport. Lula May also passed down the story about the
time Margaret Townsend was alone with her children during the Civil War. When a
Union soldier tried to break in their cabin, she shot and killed him!

He was born May 06, 1861 in Pendleton Co KY, and died Jan 23, 1926 in Covington and is buried in the Highland Cemetery in Ft Mitchell.

If she was divorced from Mr. Hughes, why did she use her maiden name on her marriage record to John Franks?

Margaret Spaulding was divorced and had a daughter when she married John William Franks. She was married to a Covington policeman by the name of HUGHES and had a daughter, Florence Hughes, born in 25 Aug 1875.
Source: Marybelle Franks Reilman; Two of Margaret Spaulding's brothers fought in the Civil War; one for the Union side and one for the Confederate side. Marybelle remembers seeing their photographs on her grandmother's dining room buffet where they were placed on either end of the buffet (not together!)

Florence Hughes never married. She was girlfriend of Barney Oldfield, famous race car driver of the late 1800s. In 1917 she lived in New York City on Riverside Drive.
