Mrs. Lydia Barnes

          MRS. LYDIA BARNES

Who came with her husband to this county in the fall of 1879 has been identified with Decatur county ever since. Her husband was one of the first to be enrolled on the list of the new paper almost as soon as he got his wagon unloaded and his dug out so he could move into it. Mrs. Barnes was for many years one of the papers brightest correspondents and her witty sayings were enjoyed by the readers of the HERALD for years. Mrs. Barnes enjoyed quite a notoriety as being the sister of Wild Bill, a noted character in the early days of the county. Mrs. Barnes has lived on her farm most of the time up to one year ago, when she came to town and lives with her daughter, Mrs. Stastney. She has a wonderful memory and can recount the happenings of the last 30 years with a vividness that is uncommon for one of her age. She has read the HERALD so long she admits she is lost without it.
