Smothers Family Reunion

Annual Smothers Family Reunion
Held at Nichols Park, Jacksonville, IL in August 1950

This picture was in the Jacksonville Daily Courier on August 15, 1950 with the following information: (anything in parenthesis is my addition/correction)

"An unusual group of brothers and sisters got together Sunday at the annual Smothers family at Nichols Park. The age of the 5 brothers and sisters pictured here total 415 years. Left to right are James Smothers, Winchester, 88, Mrs. Mettie (Mary) Patterson, Winchester, 86, Perry Smothers, Hillview, 84. Mrs. Allie (Alice) O'Donnell, Jacksonville, 81 and Bert (Albert) Smothers, Winchester, 76.

The five are children of J. W. (James William) and Belle (Isabelle McGlasson) Smothers. Their father settled land six miles southwest of Winchester, living there to the age of 90. J. W. was a member of a family of nine children, all of whom lived at least to the age of 80. The family came to Illinois from Kentucky." (actually, J. W. had 9 sibling, he made the 10th child of Andrew James Smothers and Polly Summers and they were from Sumner County, Tennessee.)
