ObituaryJul 18, 1930WAR VETERAN LAID TO REST LOMITA July 18— A number of Lomita friends including many members of the Odd Fellows lodge attended the funeral services for George Leon Houghton of Acacia street who was buried with military honors Wednesday morning at 9 am at the Soldiers’ Home at Saw-telle Chaplain Drummond reading the service Mr Houghton was a veteran of the Spanish war having served two enlistments in the 20th infantry seeing service in Japan and the Philippines Born in Montour Iowa 54 years ago he came to Lomita 11 years ago and with his brother-in-law Jesse Johnson bought property on Acacia street In December 1927 he suffered a stroke from which he never recovered In March 1928 he entered the Soldiers’ hospital at Sawtelle where he passed away Sunday His widow Lena Houghton and three small children survive him Georgia age ten lone seven and Matthew four
