Chapter Information
The España Chapter was the first Units Overseas Chapter to be confirmed in the twenty-first century. After months of hard work on the part of Mrs. Carol Rilling (Units Overseas Committee) and Mrs. Ann Peavey for Genealogy, (Units Overseas Committee), we held our organizing meeting in Madrid, Spain, on February 3, 2001, with ten organizing members in attendance.
As part of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution we share the three-fold purpose of the National Society: education, historic preservation, patriotism, while at the same time developing our project of education within Spain to make known the important role that Spain played in aiding the American colonies and gaining independence for the U.S.A.
We would like to research and document the role of Spaniards and the Spanish Crown in the American Revolution and make this little known fact generally recognized.
The year 2013 was the thre-hundredth anniversary of the birth of Fray Junipero Serra, and the five-hundredth anniversary of the discovery of the Pacific Ocean and the discovery of Florida. Our chapter was involved in many of the historical conferences and activities planned by different groups. Our chapter made a trip to the island of Mallorca where Fray Junipero Serra was born to pay homage to the founder of the Spanish Missions in California.
