Kent Thurman, 79, died Wednesday, July 11, 2007 in the
Renaissance Villa in Rockdale. Funeral services were held 3 p.m. Sunday, July 15 at Phillips and Luckey
Funeral Home in Rockdale with Burt Graham officiating. Burial followed in the Milano Cemetery.
Mr.
Thurman was born April 6, 1928 in North Hollywood, CA to Zoe Kent Thurman, Sr. and Alice Mae Goodwin.
He married Queena Rae Haddox on May 21, 1947.
He was a trustee for the Milano ISD for 13 years
and a member of the Milano Volunteer Fire Department. He followed his father-in-law, Homer O. "Runt"
Haddox position as Fire Chief and then later served as First Assistant Fire Chief for Milano.
Mr.
Thurman worked at Alcoa for 14 years in the potrooms and setting carbon and selling used cars. In 1970
he bought the Mobile Station and Wrecker Service, retiring in 2004. He was a resident of Milano for
the past 70 years.
Mr. Thurman was preceded in death by a son, Sammy Douglas Thurman on Feb.
3, 1992; parents; brother, Jack Thurman. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Queena Rae Thurman
of Milano; two sons, Buddy Thurman and wife Dell of Milano and Homer Thurman of Dallas; five daughters,
Cynthia Wood and husband Don of Whitesboro, Debra Thurman of Dallas, Teresa Kutch and husband Sonny
of Caldwell, Sandra Thurman of Milano and Olivia Henderson and husband Steve of Lexington; three sisters,
Midge Cornwell of Phoenix, AZ, Barb Dickerson of The Woodlands and Peggy Dickerson of Clarkville, AR;
11 grandchildren, Kasaundra Lee Thurman, Monica Rene Thurman, Andrew Kent Thurman, Matthew Scott Thurman,
Daniel Scott Wood, Diana Shea Wood, Lana Lea Wood, Teresa Renea Kutch, Michael Kent Cernuch, Zachary
Kent Doonan and Dana Rae Doonan; seven great-grandchildren, Christian Lee Thurman, Dylan Wyatt Andrejczak,
Kaitlyn Victoria Gayle Cernuch and Michael Kaden Cernuch.
Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers
include Don Wardlow and the officers and firefighters of Milano Volunteer Fire Department.
