Howard "Bump" Dunlavy died peacefully
on Saturday Sept. 3, 2005, at the age of 84.
Howard was born in Tooele, Utah, on Feb. 7, 1922,
to Harvey Howard and Clara Caffey Dunlavy. Attended school in Tooele. He served honorably in the United
States Army in Europe during World War II. He married Helen Gillespie on Feb. 8, 1942. They were married
for 51 years.
Dad was the administrator of the Tooele Valley Nursing Home for 27 years, receiving
many awards for having the highest rated senior care facility in the state of Utah. Dad was an avid
sportsman; he loved hunting and fishing; he shared his love for the outdoors with his sons. He served
as president of the Tooele County Wildlife Federation. Dad was extremely proud to have served as fire
chief of the Tooele Volunteer Fire Department, giving many years of volunteer fire service to his community.
He also served as president of Eagle's Lodge.
Howard is survived by his sons Howard "Skip" (Linda)
and Patrick (Pam); sister-in-law Ruth Till (Woody); seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was proceeded in death by his sweet wife Helen; his father Harvey; mother Clara; brother Frank and
sister Pauline.
Dad will be greatly missed. We extend thanks to the staff at Rocky Mountain Care
in Tooele for their excellent care and for bringing so much happiness to Dad. Also a special thanks
to Dr. Blake Beazer for his skills and compassion.
