About Alden Kenneth * Eiland:
This family is not connected to the Richard Eiland (born 1665) family. Alden Kenneth Eiland, age
84, of Spokane, Washington died Wednesday, April 23 at Deaconess Hospital in Spokane. Born June 25,
1924 in Grand Forks, ND, he was the only child of Albin G. and Carrie (Klemesrud) Eiland. He was awarded
a B.A. in History from the University of North Dakota and did post-graduate studies in law at the University
of Minnesota. After moving to Washington and settling in Yakima, he married Marilee Courtright in
1952 and had 5 children. During his lifetime he lived in many places pursuing a variety of business
ventures among which were teaching, banking and primarily publications. His commercial real estate ventures
in the northern part of Minnesota ushered him into his retirement years when he continued to be an avid
sports fan, faithfully following the UND Fighting Sioux. In the late 1990's he moved to Spokane to be
closer to his children. He was a veteran and member of the Polk County American Legion post, of the
Lutheran Church (ELCA) and was active in the South Side Senior Center in Spokane. He is survived
by his son, Eric & wife Beryl of Anchorage, AK, daughter Rebecca & husband Russell Sell also of Anchorage,
daughter Verginia & husband Dr. John Thomas of Wenatchee, WA, daughter Marcial M. Felice of Walla Walla,
WA, son David of Spokane, 14 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and numerous cousins.
