About David Albert (Dave) Wood:
David Albert 'Dave' Wood left home at Gorman, Tx between 1899-1903 (18-22 years old). He lived at Dickens,
Tx where he worked on the Madador Ranch at what is now known as Madador, Tx for a short while. He
then went to work for Joseph 'Joe' Jackson McCarty on his large farm at Afton, Tx It was there he met
and married Annie Irene McCarty. They resided there in Afton, Tx working for Joe until they had saved
enough money to buy their farm outside Hollis, Oklahoma. They moved there between 1906-1908. They
resided there where they farmed, and raised fruits and vegetables. In between crops Dave would breAr
mules (mule skinner) to the plow and wagon for people. They resided there until his death in 1944 after
which Annie sold the farm and moved into Hollis where she resided until her death. From comments by

About Annie Irene McCarty:
Annie died after putting out a large wash that morning. She went through the house to get the mail
and was found her sitting in her rocking chair with a letter clutched in her hands from her daughter
Romie. She died of a heart attack. After she and David Wood married their first house was a dugout
in a hillside. It had two windows and a door in the front of the house. This is where Orveda and Verner
were born. They lived there until they saved enough money to buy almost 300 acres of farm land outside
of Hollis, Harmon Co. Oklahoma. They moved there where the other children were born. From comments
