Pineridge District #1018


For many years now I have been trying to get information regarding the one room
school house my late Mother attended at Brightsands Lake, northern
Saskatchewan. The attached photo was taken probably around 1925, and I believe
the school house was called Pineridge. I have searched your web pages with the
hope of finding something written on this wonderful little building. I know it
was torn down many year ago, but maybe this picture might bring back some
memories to the many people that I'm sure visit your wonderful site, and just
maybe someone else can fill me in a little more.

The family lived on Bright Sands Lake and Mom walked 2 miles to
school. After emailing my cousin for more information she is sure the photo
was taken in 1927. The photo includes my mother Tina Martens, bottom step
on the right side. We also believe there are 2 or 3 brothers and a sister in
the photo. The teacher's name was Miss Cox if that helps at all identify what
school it was. Thank you once again for posting this treasured photo for me.
I look forward to learning more about this beloved little building.

Since my last email my cousin and I have been busy trying to piece more
of our roots puzzle together. She recently emailed the Northwestern
Saskatchewan school district and obtained some records of enrollment
from 1931 to 1936.

She asked me if I would email you to see if you have any information on
a teacher by the name of Miss McIntyre and Miss
Cox.

Both taught at Bright Sands, but she would like to know the years they
were there. And also what division they taught under.

We would both appreciate anything you can tell us about these two teachers.

Hi, What a great site, but want to give some input on the photo submitted by
Linda Henderson. She thought it was Pine Ridge in SD #1018, but as a former
student I can tell you it is not. I am sure it's Bright Sand school in SD# 3447.
According to our Bright Sand history book the "Miss Cox" mentioned taught there
in 1923. I do have photos of both Pine Ridge schools, old one built in 1913
and the new built in 1950. Both are still standing, but getting in bad shape.
Another school in the area is Moose Head school in SD # 3193 which has been
rebuilt and is now a historic site.
