The idea for the second edition of this book was born as the ink was drying on the 1999 seminal edition
produced by Robert Hamblett Crowther. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines the word genealogy in part
as "an account of the descent of a person, family, or group from an ancestor" and dates from the 14th century.
As you will know, one can never be finished with a family tree and thus Robert found that after publishing his
seminal work the flood of new material started and soon became an avalanche. We approached Robert in
October 2004 and offered to help with the production of the second edition, which he graciously gave us
permission to do. On e-publishing the second edition, we are also expecting a similar proliferation of new
material and have braced ourselves for it.




This second edition has been developed from Robert's updated family tree and individual chapter author’s trees
as well. The four (4) Hubley cousins listed above are the direct descendants of Ulrich Hubley’s four (4) sons
from his fourth marriage to the widow Anna Barbara Leigh on July 03, 1759. The cousins are listed in
descending order of the seniority ranking of Ulrich’s sons. The second edition covers the first five generations
from Ulrich, i.e.; from 1719 (Ulrich’s birth year) to approximately 1900 - a span of 181 years. Today, we have
members of the 10th generation making their presence known to the world.




The e-second edition is presented in five (5) Chapters – one for Ulrich and one for each of his four (4) sons.
There are seven (7) appendices and brief vignettes of Robert Hamblett Crowther, the Chapter authors, and
major contributors Robert Lawrence Hegerich and Brenda Jean Maruca and lastly a CD jewel case label for
those who would like to produce their own CD of the book. Each chapter has an index of surnames. Also to
help the reader focus, contrast and compare here are some interesting statistics about Ulrich’s four (4) sons that
will give the reader a better appreciation of the scope of each brother’s family tree.

A word about Chapter 2 – Jacob: There is strong evidence that an error was made in the Northwest United
Baptist Church marriage register entries. It appears that the wives of Jacob’s Alexander grandsons i.e., 
Alexander [1809] (father Ferdinand, see family 11) and Alexander [1813] (father Alexander see family 23)
were incorrectly assigned. Bob Hegerich was the first researcher to discover this and he, Brenda Maruca and
Lois Jenkins continue to sort through the sources to confirm the correct ancestral order. Our intention is to
issue a corrected version of Chapter 2 – Jacob in the not too distant future. If anyone has any source
information that might help in this exercise being undertaken by Bob, Brenda and Lois, please contact
[email protected]. Thank you. We regret any inconvenience this situation may cause other researchers
but rest assured that we will publish the corrected version as soon as possible.
