Dear Online Historical Map Digitization Project Enthusiasts,

As the sun sets on the familiar chapters of RootsWeb and Ancestry, we eagerly embrace the dawn of a new era for our beloved project. Welcome to the rejuvenated https://www.patreon.com/SaskGenWebOnline Historical Map Digitization project at our new digital home: https://saskgenweb.ca/canmaps/. The existing pages may transition to a format without updates and new additions in 2024, but fear not; our commitment to unraveling Saskatchewan's genealogy, history, and community heritage remains steadfast.

Our dedicated volunteers, the architects of this labor of love, are poised to continue the exploration of Saskatchewan's rich tapestry. Together, we document family histories, illuminate the corridors of one-room schoolhouses, and preserve the whispers of time etched on cemetery headstones. Our journey encompasses the intricacies of historical maps and the diverse placenames that define Saskatchewan's landscape.

With the unwavering support of our growing Patreon community (https://www.patreon.com/SaskGenWeb), we've secured a new domain and web hosting provider. This ensures the ongoing vitality of our project, and we extend a warm invitation for you to join us in this exciting venture. Immerse yourself in the revamped webpages at https://saskgenweb.ca/canmaps/ and witness the unfolding narratives of Saskatchewan's past.

Beyond this transformative shift, we invite you to be an integral part of our ongoing story. Frequently Asked Questions

  • Under Construction Notice

This Atlas is just coming online. If you peruse the Table of Contents or one of the indexes and see a page you would like to see online, please email. In this way, a page or map can be placed online out of chronological order.

Additional Note: The scanner supplied a copying area of 11 X 14 inches, the size of the Atlas proper, so the fold-out maps in the frontispiece of the Atlas, being larger than 11 x 14 inches were scanned in four different scans going to each outside corner, allowing overlap in the center, in order to achieve a scan of the entire paper area of the fold-out map in question. They are labelled as to the north, south, east, or west area of the scans as in relation to the compass pointer of the paper map.

  • Permission to Reproduce Material

Maps digitized on this website were scanned or submitted to the Online Historical Map Digitization Project for the purpose of providing genealogists, historians with access to historical geographical, township, range, town and village information as shown on heritage maps. A genealogist may then see how the city or country of their ancestor appeared historically in a bygone era, and compare such historical land areas to present day to see the changes. Such research may provide insight as to archive locations for records.

You may have permissions to use and reproduce Online Historical Map Digitization Project materials as follows:

    Non-commercial Reproduction

The website visitor may reproduce Online Historical Map Digitization Project materials in whole or in part, in any format, if the work is not being revised or translated, for non-commercial purposes without charge or further permission, if you do the following:
    • Reproduce the material accurately.
    • A courtesy email would be nice from folks wishing to use maps for genealogy/personal use to show that the website is appreciated and of assistance to others.
    • Indicate on the reproduction a complete bibliography (or leave the entire pdf file in tact) regarding the materials used.
    • For permission for your personal [non-commercial] use, just state a bibliography, or leave the entire pdf file in tact, as the source information is at the bottom of each map file. Examples of a bibliography for the 1910 Atlas maps is shown below.

  • Purchasing Maps

If you wish to purchase an historical map, you may wish to try searching such venues as used book stores, or auction sites such as E-bay.
Bookfinder.com is an amalgamation of used and new book stores who allow their computerized store inventory database to be searched by bookfinder.com
The maps online at the Online Historical Map Digitization Project are mainly from digital submissions originating as scans, so these are not available for purchase in paper format.

If you have a map for sale, you may also wish to contact a used book store, or an auction site such as E-bay.

If you wish to know the price of your historical map, you may wish to compare it to maps listed on a used book store web site, or on E-bay.

  • Submitting Scans of Maps

If you have an historical map that you have scanned and wish to submit it to share with historians/genealogists, please contact the webmaster. This would be done on a volunteer basis, and submitted to a volunteer to be placed online. Credit to the submitters are acknowledged on the relevant map pages, and in the dedication pages as well.
