Lassen County
Lassen County

Pre-1905 Calif Death Index

Lassen County was created in 1864 from Shasta and Plumas Counties. The county's name was derived from Mount Lassen, which was named for Peter Lassen, one of General Fremont's guides and a famous trapper, frontiersman and Indian fighter. He was killed by the Paiutes at the base of the mountain in 1859.
