[Ruth Helvy's Note: Ruth Turner Ziegel has passed away in the last couple of years. We all owe her an undying "Thank you!" for all the countless hours of research and work she put into this document. Her loving husband, who assisted Ruth by driving her all over the country has given me permission to publish her work on the web. NONE OF THIS WORK IS TO BE REPRINTED OR USED FOR PROFIT. Ruth gave us her service in providing this information and it is not to be used for any other purpose than non-profit personal and family genealogy information. Even though some errors have popped up, her ground work for information on this family is priceless. I will make reference to addendums at the end where the corrections will be posted. That information I will put in brackets. There is no Title on the first Page. I am just calling it ..... ]

The Descendants of Julius and Agatha Barnett Christy

MESSAGE FROM THE COMPILER

This is not meant to be an in depth study of all the descendents of Julius and Agatha Christy. If ever I had had such lofty ambitions they would have been shattered when I read in the obituary of Katherine Lindsey Stone (daughter of Ann Christy and John Lindsey) that she was grandmother to one hundred children.

The story of this family is similar to many other families in this era of the young country. The first generation arriving in the mid 1600's or early 1700's from Great Britain, settling in Virginia. Then their children venture in all directions! Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, become home to many of them. A few drift to the deep south. And they left paper trails in the records of all these states.

It seemed important to me to share the results of my research with others interested in this family. It is my hope that other descendents will "pick up" their line and continue and add to what I have found. I am convinced that there is much to be found and that my notes will provide new clues of where to hunt.

My research for primary evidence has been widespread. It includes the counties of Virginia where the Christys were supposed to have been and the ones that records proved they were. I have spent hours in the courthouses and libraries of Kentucky. A three week trip to Missouri added to my information, as did correspondence with State Libraries and Historical Societies of Missouri. Correspondence with THE LIBRARIANS OF SEVERAL Louisiana Universities was helpful, as was an all too short one day visit to the Louisiana State Library.

I regret that I was not able to find with certainty, the name of Julius' father. That is, of course, why I follow the name Samuel with a (?). Even there I know there are avenues I did not explore. I did only cursory work with ship records and I did no work with English records. I also am convinced that it is possible to establish the relationships of Julius to the western Pennsylvania Christys, and probably also to the William Christy of Pennsylvania, Kentucky and Missouri.

I will welcome correspondence with other Christy researchers, either correcting my conclusions or adding new data.
