Welcome to Shawnee County

Trails to the Past

This county is available for adoption!

Shawnee County is located in the northeast section of Kansas, and is home to the State capitol, Topeka. Topeka is also the largest city in the county, as well as the county seat. Bordered on the north by Jackson County; on the northeast and southeast by Jefferson and Douglas counties; the south by Osage county; the west by Wabaunsee; and the northwest by Pottawatomie County. Established as one of the original Territorial counties in 1855, it was name for the Shawnee Indians--one of the tribes which inhabited the area.

As noted above, Shawnee County needs a County Administrator. If you are interested in the job, email me at [email protected] for more information. If you'll put "Shawnee County" in the Subject line, I will be sure to notice.

We will be building this web site over time to include information and records to assist you as you research your Cloud County families. Below, you will note a table which includes the types of documents and information we hope to have available for you as quickly as we can. Should you have any information that you wish to include here, please contact me at [email protected] and let me know. Copy and paste my email address into your email template.
