Linn County is located in the East Central Kansas, right on the Missouri border. It's neighboring counties include Miami county to the north; Bates and Vernon counties in Missouri on the east and southeast, respectively; Bourbon and Allen counties to the south and southwest; and Anderson and Franklin counties to the west and northwest. Linn County was one of the original counties established by the Kansas Territorial Government in 1855. It's county seat is Mound City, and largest city is Pleasanton.

Linn County was named for Dr. Lewis Fields Linn, a U.S. Senator from Missouri who was responsible for the acquisition of the Oregon Territory. Linn County is the home to the original Kansas Jayhawkers, the site of the Marais des Cygnes Massacre(one of the triggers for the Civil War), and the only major battle of the Civil War which took place in Kansas.
