Franklin County is located in the east central part of Kansas, bordered by Douglas and Johnson counties to the north and northeast; Miami and Linn counties to the east and southeast; Anderson and Coffey counties to the south and southwest; and Osage county to the west. Franklin County is one of the original counties of Kansas, established in 1855 by the first Territorial Government of Kansas Territory. It was named for Benjamin Franklin. Ottawa is the county seat and largest city in Franklin County.
