Minimum Computer Requirements

  • For Microsoft Windows users:
    • Computer Type: PC or PC compatible
    • Operating System: Windows XP Home or Professional, Windows Vista
    • Browser: Internet Explorer 6.0.2 SP2 or above, Mozilla Firefox 1.5.0.7 or above
    • Minimum Computer Speed: Pentium® IV or better
    • Minimum Internal Memory (RAM): 512MB or greater
    • Java 1.5_11 or above
    • Display: 1024 x 768 or higher
    • Connection Speed: Broadband high-speed internet recommended (DSL, cable, satellite)
  • For Macintosh users:
    Although Macintosh is not a fully supported platform, we do have many users who are successfully using FamilySearch Indexing on the Macintosh platform. Users who have the following minimum system requirements seem to have very few problems:
    • Processor: G4 or Intel MacOS X-compatible processor or higher
    • Operating System: Apple MacOS X version 10.4 or later
    • Browser: Safari version 2.0 or above, Mozilla Firefox 1.5.0.7 or above, IE version 5.0 or above,
    • Memory: 512 MB of RAM required
    • Java version 5 update 7 or later
    • Display: 1024 x 768 or higher
    • Connection Speed: Broadband high-speed internet recommended (DSL, cable, satellite)
  • For Linux users:
    Although Linux is not a fully supported platform, we do have many users who are successfully using FamilySearch Indexing on Linux. Users who have the following minimum system requirements seem to have very few problems:
    • Computer Type: PC or PC compatible
    • Operating System: Redhat Fedora Desktop 7 or higher, Open SUSE 10.2 and above, Ubuntu 6.06 and above, Gentoo 2006.1 and above
    • Mozilla Firefox 1.5.0.7 or above
    • Minimum Computer Speed: Pentium® IV or better
    • Minimum Internal Memory (RAM): 512MB or greater
