9:15- 10:15 | The 1867 Voter's Lists of the South: A Yankee Legacy for Southern Researchers Mic Barnette The Civil War was over, militarily, in 1865. However, the nightmare experienced by Southerners continued. In 1867 the United States Congress voided all governments in the South for any state that failed to ratify the 13th and 14th Amendments to the US Constitution. This talk is about the lists created in the Southern states in 1867 to register potential voters for the elections that would follow. |
