Records

The Turks & Caicos National Museum is the country's main repository for island records. While a large portion of its older records are currently inaccessible due to their poor condition, the Museum Archive has many records on microfiche or microfilm dating back from the 1760's to modern times. See the Museum Archive page for a list of holdings.

Since the Museum staff is not yet equipped to answer research questions by phone, email or regular mail; they will accept queries by email for posting on their website. Instructions are found here:

A large number of Turks & Caicos records can be found off the island. The LDS/Mormon Library has the following holdings:

Public Records 1820 - 1948 (affidavits, bills of sale, bonds, contracts, estate inventories, indentures, manumissions, mortgages, obligations, wills and testaments, grand jury appointments, etc.)

Parish register transcripts 1864-1991 (births, baptisms, marriages, deaths and burials)

Probate records 1849-1954 (wills, inventories, administration of estates)

Vital Records - Births, Marriages & Deaths

Vital Records (Births, Marriages & Deaths) on the Turks & Caicos Islands date back to 02 January 1863.

The Registry of Births, Deaths & Marriages General holds these records. They do not yet have a website. All correspondence should be by phone or regular mail.

There are also a large number of birth, death and marriage records available from at least two churches on the island, St. Mary's Anglican Church on Grand Turk and St. Thomas Church (denomination unknown), both of which are located within the Turks & Caicos National Museum. The St. Mary's records cover marriage, baptism and deaths from several parishes on Grand Turk and Salt Cay, dating from the 1790's to the 1920's.
