What We Do
We give ROTC awards to one high school student and one college student annually.
We support DAR schools with money, and by mailing soup labels to them that they can exchange for needed items.
We support local veterans' hospitals with money and donated items.
Our entry in the NSDAR'S "Outstanding Teacher of American History" contest was the PA state winner in 2002.
We give Good Citizen awards to the best and brightest high school seniors in numerous local high schools. Beginning in 2005 we are awarding the Margaret Rugh Henderson scholarship to the winner of the Good Citizen essay contest.
We support NSDAR projects like "Project Patriot". To learn more about this project visit Project Patriot Our dues help preserve DAR buildings in Washington, DC, and support the operation of the national organization.
We subscribe individually to American Spirit magazine. You don't have to be a DAR member to subscribe! Find it at www.dar.org.
We pay for all this by selling several books. One, Flood Tides Along the Allegheny by Francis Harbison tells the story of Massy Harbison. We sell a cookbook, Recipes with History, written by our members, and we are just now publishing a book of historical events and memories called Digging Up the Past, also written by our members. We also accept donations.
