Community Mourns Death of Leading
Citizen and Former Mayor
Ill Several Months
OSCEOLA RECORD, NEBRASKA (1935) - This city and community mourns the death of Samuel Snider, distinguished and respected citizen, which occurred on Tuesday, March 5th, 1935, at his residence in Osceola. Mr. Snider had suffered from the effects of a serious heart ailment for some time. This reached an acute stage on November 12th, 1934, at which time and for many weeks thereafter he was confined to his bed. He seemed to have convalesced from this illness and was able to be about his house,and on one occasion came down town, but on Wednesday pneumonia developed which contributed to his death.
   Samuel Allen Snider, the son of James and Mary Ann Snider, was born at Meaford, Ontario, Canada, on January 30th, 1864, where he resided continuously to the time of his death.
   Mr. Snider began his banking career with the Osceola bank in 1892. In 1902 he assisted in the organization of First National Bank in 1892. In 1902 he assisted in the organization of the First National Bank and served as its cashier for some years, and for many years and up to the time of his serious illness was its President.
   Mr. Snider at an earlier time was both Deputy County Clerk and County Clerk, and more recently had served as Mayor of the city for ten years. He took a leading part in the community life, was a member of the Community Club, of the Odd Fellows Lodge and several bodies of the Masonic Lodge, including the Scottish Rite and the Shrine and was, in addition, a life long member of the Methodist Church.
   He was married on September 4th, 1890, to Marguerite Tobias at Shelby, Nebraska. To this union four children were born; Mrs Ver... Kirtley, of Nebraska City, Mrs. Marjorie Fonda of Fullerton, Nebraska, Sidley L. Snider and Mrs. Jocelyn Byers of Osceola, Nebraska. Mr. Snider is also survived by a brother, Wesley E. Snider of Osceola, Nebraska, and a sister, Mrs. James Campbell of Philomath, Oregon, together with three grandchildren, Samuel Allen Byers, Don Ray Byers, and Margaret Elaine Fonda.
