DEATH OF MRS. PLUNKETT
MEAFORD EXPRESS (1924) - The death of Alice Hartley, relict of the late Thomas Plunkett, took place at the family residence, Nelson street, on Friday morning, at the advanced age of 88 years. Deceased had been in failing health for some months, due to the infirmities of old age, although able to be about within a few days of her death.
   The late Mrs. Plunkett was born in Yorkshire, England, being the posthumous daughter of the late Abraham Hartley.
   In 1854, she with her mother and stepfather, the late John Binns, came to Canada and finally located in Owen Sound, where in January, 1860, she was married to her late husband. Shortly after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Plunkett moved to Meaford, where the family have resided ever since, and where Mr. Plunkett died some twenty years ago.
   The late Mrs. Plunkett was a member of the Methodist Church and took an active part in various branches of church work. She was a member of the Ladies' Aid, Women's Missionary Society and gave of her talent and means for the furtherance of the cause when in her power so to do. She was a charitable disposition and was beloved by her family and friends. She is survived by three daughters and one son: Mrs. Wm. Cook, Mrs. (Dr.) Heming, of Meaford; Miss Lottie Plunkett, of New York; and Thomas Plunkett, of Meaford. Surviving also are three half sisters; Mrs. Heming, Mrs. Buchanan and Mrs. Kilbourne, of Owen Sound. The late Mrs. (Dr.) Cameron of Owen Sound was a full sister.
   The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon to Lakeview Cemetery and was attended by many sympathizing friends. Revs. J.W. Stewart and Thomas Snowdon officiated and spoke feelingly of the many endearing qualities of the deceased.
