MEAFORD EXPRESS June 3, 1922) - The death of Robert Edward Main on Saturday afternoon after some months illness, removes on of the oldest merchants in Meaford, he having entered business here some forty-five years ago which he conducted successfully until his death.
   Born in Ottawa in 1852, the late Mr. Main came to Meaford as a young man and in 1877 commenced business in Meaford in partnership with Mr. Hogg. For some years the store was conducted under the firm's name of Main & Hogg, the latter retiring after a time and deceased carried on himself. He was a man of the strictest integrity and was the prime mover in Meaford in adopting the cash system here, a policy he carried out from the start. He was reliable and generous to any cause that appealed to him as deserving. In church work he took an active part and was an elder in Meaford Church for some 30 years.  
   Deceased was married February 4, 1875, to Miss Jane Boyes, daughter of the late Henry Boyes, of Orillia, who survives, together with one brother and one sister, Mr. T.A. Main, Orillia, and Mr. Jas. Lindsay, Ottawa. An only son, Arnold predeceased him some years ago.
   The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon to Lakeview Cemetery. Service was conducted in the Presbyterian Church, by Rev. Mr. Pilkie, Owen Sound, and Rev. Thos. Snowdon, town.
   The pallbearers included many fast friends in the persons of Messrs. Wm. Butchart, O. Boden, Wm. Gardener, D.A. Ferguson, G.G. Albery and F. Weaver.
   The floral offerings were beautiful and bore silent sympathy from a host of friends. Included were wreaths from his employees and nurse, Erskine Church Session, and a spray of roses from the W.R. Brock Co., Toronto.
