DEATH OF MRS. LANKTREE
MEAFORD EXPRESS (1922) - The death of Mrs. Thomas Lanktree (nee Isabella Cummings) took place on Tuesday afternoon at the advanced age of 84 years, as a result of a stroke.
Deceased was born in Glasgow, Scotland, in April 1838 and came to Canada as a young girl. She was married at Collingwood in 1856 and moved into the house on Seymour street where she spent the past 66 years and where her husband died in July 1876. Her home was one of the old landmarks of Meaford, where her family was reared and where many girl boarders found homelike surroundings and wholesome influences during their stay in town or while attending Meaford High School.
Two children also predeceased her, William Thomas, in Chicago in 1902, and Mrs. Donald McKinnon in 1884. One brother, James Cummings, of Gaylord, Mich., survives with a number of nephews and nieces, and grandchildren, including Thomas Lanktree and Mrs. P.A. Marr, Chicago; and Mrs. T.L. Poor, Henry, South Dakota, the latter having come to visit her grandmother in Meaford three weeks ago and was present during her illness and death. An invalided daughter-in-law, Mrs. Wm. Lanktree, also resides in Chicago.
The late Mrs. Lanktree was a member of the Presbyterian Church and held the high esteem of a host of warm friends.
The funeral, which is private, takes place to Lakeview Cemetery this afternoon. Rev. Robt. Barbour will conduct the funeral services at the house and grave.
