DR. SAMUEL HUFF
DIES IN 76th YEAR
DEATH CAME SUDDENLY ON
FRIDAY - LIFE SPENT IN
EDUCATION WORK
MEAFORD EXPRESS ( 1928) - Dr. Samuel Huff, until recently Inspector of Public Schools in East Grey, died at his home here at 9:30 Friday evening last. Dr. Huff was in his 76th year. He was born near Lefroy in Simcoe county. He worked on a farm in his early life preparing himself at the same time for the teaching profession in which he remained all his life. He taught public school in Lefroy, Belle Ewart, Orillia and Barrie. Continuing his studies, however, he received his degree from Queen's University thus qualifying himself for high school teaching. In 1891 he was appointed Science Master at Meaford High School. Since that time he has been a resident of this town and a citizen who took a leading and active part in all community affairs. He remained on the staff of the High School here for fourteen years. In 1905 he was appointed Inspector of Public Schools for East Grey.
   In 1902 Dr. Huff won his degree of Pedagogy and is the only man in Ontario who ever won the degree at his age. He continued as Inspector until the end of December last when he retired in accordance with the superannuation regulations of the department of education. As inspector he occupied foremost place in education circles in the district and he was well known throughout the province to all educationists.
   Dr. Huff was a member of the Masonic Lodge and of the Orangemen. He was twice married his first wife being Marjory Jane Barnhart who died some years ago. He is survived by his second wife, Edna May McNigh, and three sons and two daughters. The daughters are Mrs. Jas. Hagerty, Claresholm, Alberta; and Mrs. Geo. Hoggarty, Belle Plaine, Sask. The sons are: John S. Huff, Principal of the Normal School at Moose Jaw; Frank S. Huff, B.Sc., Kirkland Lake, Sask., and Edward Huff of Belle Plaine. A brother in Toronto and two sisters, Mrs. Graham of Oshawa and Mrs. S. McCann of Orillia also also survive.
