EX-COUNCILLOR DEAD
MR. CHARLES CROTHERS, ONE OF MEAFORD'S
OLDEST RESIDENTS, PASSES PEACEFULLY AWAY.
MEAFORD EXPRESS (1911) - Mr. Charles Crothers, an old esteemed resident of the town, passed away at his home on Collingwood street at ten o'clock Sunday morning. He had been in a feeble state of health for some time and frequently was taken with weak spells which greatly impaired his physical energy and unfitted him for labor of any kind. Mr. Crothers came to Meaford when a boy. He was a carpenter by occupation, and always enjoyed the reputation of being a hard working, industrious man. He assisted in erecting a number of the lighthouses on the Georgian Bay as well as some of the buildings in Meaford. In municipal affairs he took an active interest, serving as a Town Councilor for several years, during which time he acted as chairman of Public Property Committee. He was 72 years of age. In religion Mr. Crothers was a Disciple, living an upright, conscientious, Christian life all his days. A widow and a son and daughter survive, David and Mrs. Robt. Peach. Six nephews acted as pall-bearers at the funeral, which took place to Meaford Cemetery on Tuesday afternoon.
