Coal County OK Genealogical Society

From the President

We are happy to report the purchase of a new Eye-Com 10,000 Reader-Printer for the library. We are now able to provide our members and family researchers with immediate copies of census reports, newspaper articles and obituaries, and other records on microfilm.

We have added a number of new research materials to our collection, including the personal papers of J.E.T. Clark, editor and publisher of the Coalgate Courier in the 1900's and Postmaster at Tupelo, OK.

We have also added a history of the First United Methodist Church from 1893 to 1993. In addition we have copied the records of the Catholic Church of Coalgate from 1876 to present and are in the process of binding these for our collection.

Other new research materials include a biography of Patrick J. Hurley, 1956, donated by Rebecca Washburn and a of copy of Volume III of Muriel Wright's "History of Oklahoma" was donated by Nelda Ferrero on behalf of Mr. Arvard Hudson.

We have "Excerpts from the diary of Rev. Issac Parkins, 1927-1929" donated by Karla Chapman and "The Choctaw Protective Association of the Indian Territory Brand Book", donated by Buddy Randall, Coquille, OR.

New microfilm purchases include the 1900 Federal Census for the Chickasaw Nation and the 1900 Federal Census for the Creek Nation. We have also ordered copies of the 1910 census for Latimer, Le Flore, Pushmataha, and McCurtain counties in the Choctaw Nation.
