173. Lucy Rosella Priscilla "Rose" Brotherton was born on 20 Apr 1901 in Edwards, St. Lawrence, NY. She died on 27 Jun 1984 in Carthage, Jefferson, NY. Road and 109 Oak St., Watertown, widow of Foster Penniman, died Wednesday evening at Carthage Area Hospital. She had been a patient in a nursing home for more than a year.
"The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Bossuot-Lundy Funeral Home, Rev. Arland B. Rees, pastor of Black River United Methodist Church, officiating. burial will be in Pierce Cemetery, Fort Drum.
"Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Carthage Chapter 276, Order of the Eastern Star, will conduct a memorial service at 8 p.m.
"Nieces and nephews survive.
"Born in Edwards April 20, 1901, daughter of Clark and Elizabeth LaFleur Brotherton, she attended Edwards, Antwerp and Watertown schools. At one time she was employed as an inspector at the New York Air Brake Company, Watertown.
"Her first marriage, to Alvie Donaldson, ended in divorce. She married Foster Penniman on April 14, 1950, in Watertown. He died in September 1967.
"Mrs. Penniman was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a past noble grand of the Clayton Rebekah Lodge." She was buried in Pierce cemetery, Fargo, Jefferson, NY.

Lucy Rosella Priscilla "Rose" Brotherton and Foster B. Penniman were married on 14 Apr 1952 in Watertown, Jefferson, NY. Foster B. Penniman (son of Charles D. Penniman and Evelyn Smith) was born on 13 Oct 1891 in Wilna, Jefferson, NY. He died on 25 Sep 1967 in Watertown, Jefferson, NY. His obituary appeared on 26 Sep 1967 in the Watertown Daily Times of Watertown, Jefferson, NY, as follows: "North Man Dies at 75. Carthage -- Foster P. Penniman, 75, Carthage route 1, a World War I veteran, died in Jefferson county hospital, Watertown, at 6 p.m. Monday.
"Mr. Penniman had been a patient there since Aug. 8. He previously had been a patient in the Carthage nursing home and Carthage Area hospital. He had been ill for 14 months after suffering a heart attack in July, 1966.
"The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Bossuot funeral home. Rev. Stanley E. Smith, pastor of the First Methodist church, will officiate. burial will be in Pierce cemetery, Fargo road.
"Friends may call at the Bossuot funeral home this evening from 7 to 9 and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. There will be a Masonic service Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. conducted by Carthage lodge 158 F. & A.M., of which Mr. Penniman was a member.
"Surviving Mr. Penniman are his wife, Rosa Brotherton Penniman, his sister-in-law, Mrs. Riley (Bertha) Penniman, Fargo road, with whom he made his home, and a niece, Mrs. DeAlton (Phyllis) Eddy, Castile.
"Mr. Penniman was born in the town of Wilna, Oct. 13, 1891, a son of Charles and Evelyn Smith Penniman. He attended schools in the town of Wilna. He served in the infantry in World War I.
"Discharged from the army, he worked as a woodsman in the Oswegatchie and Star Lake section and later as an employee of the town of Wilna and village of Carthage. For the last seven years before hospitalization he worked at North Watertown cemetery.
"He was married to the former Rose Brotherton in Hope Presbyterian church parsonage, Watertown, April 14, 1952." He was buried in Pierce cemetery, Fargo, Jefferson, NY. He served in the military during WW I, as an infantryman.
