At Amherst on Aug. 13th to Private & Mrs. LEO MYERS, a son

MARRIED
At the Baptist parsonage, by Rev. P.R. HAYDEN, on August 30th, Miss GRACE WOOD of Oxford to COREY MOORE of Little River.

PERCY ANDERSON, son of Mr. HENRY ANDERSON of Northport, in a recent letter home says he is now in charge of a machine gun in one of the hottest corners of the firing line in France. He has had some close shaves and exciting experiences and carries a big dent in his steel helmet, a piece of shrapnel shell, souvenir of the Huns.

Mr. & Mrs. ROBERT GRAY of Joggins Mines received the sad news that their youngest son, Private WILLIAM GRAY, had been killed inaction in France on August 19th. He was only 19 years of age and was one of the most popular young men of the town. Flags were hung at half mast on receipt of news.

Private DARRELL WOODLOCK, of the 246th Battalion is spending a few days in Oxford.

Private HANCE THOMPSON, of the 193rd Band, Aldershot, is spending a few days at his home here.

ALEX SUTHERLAND of Oxford, has gone to Earltown to attend the funeral of his sister-in-law, widow of the late D. SUTHERLAND of Gardiner, Maine.

Mr. & Mrs. MINER McELMON announce the engagement of their daughter, ANNIE ELIZABETH to Lieutenant GEORGE HARRY THOMPSON, of Calgary, Alberta. The marriage will take place at an early date.

Mr. &Mrs. C. J. MILLS and children left town on Monday for Maine, where they intend residing. Mr. MILLS having secured employment there. They will be missed by many friends and relatives here.

Joggins Mines
The funeral of Mr. CHARLES LYONS took place on Saturday. Quite a number of mourning friends from Amherst, Springhill and River Hebert were among those in attendance.

DIED - Mrs. ANNIE McLAUGHLIN
Mrs. ANNIE McLAUGHLIN of Brooklyn, N.Y. died on Aug. 18th. She is survived by one son, FRANK, and two sisters, Miss KATHERINE DOHERTY of Brooklyn, formerly of this city, and Mrs. P. HICKEY of Amherst, N.S.

At Wallace Bay South, Aug. 12th to Mr. & Mrs. J. RUSSELL DOTTEN, a son.

MARRIED
At Baptist parsonage, Pugwash by Rev. HARRY PUDDINGTON, JOHN J. McDONALD of Port Howe and SARAH E. TUCKER of Boston, Mass.
