Mr. & Mrs. BYRON STONEHOUSE of Millvale are rejoicing over the arrival of a daughter, (Mrs. STONEHOUSE was formerly Miss MARY CANNING of River Philip).

Miss JEAN RIPLEY of River Philip intends leaving in April for Montreal where she will commence her training in the Royal Victoria Hospital of that city. Miss RIPLEY will be very much missed by a large circle of Friends.

DEATH
Amherst Boy Loses His Life
J. BERTRAM CHAPMAN, 17 years old died Tuesday at Amherst as the result of an accident last night at the shooting gallery of Trinity Methodist church of that town. Young CHAPMAN was acting as range officer at the shooting practice and was looking at target when in some mysterious way a stray bullet struck him in the back of the head. He was taken to hospital, where he died this morning.

At Attleboro, Mass., Feb. 16th, Mr. & Mrs. ALBERT A. VanDerWATER a daughter.
At Moose Jaw, Sask, Feb. 6th, to Dr. & Mrs. VAUGHN E. BLACK, a son.

Married
Pte. A. LORING LOWTHER formerly of Oxford was married at the home of bride, Jan. 21st, 1918, Miss ELSIE LACEY in England.

Married
At the home of the brides, Mr. ALEXANDER CHISHOLM, Five Islands, on Feb. 20th, Miss WINNIE to AUBREY A. SMITH of Edmonton, and Miss FLORENCE to MAXM. LAYTON of Great Village. The latter bride was for last term the efficient teacher in the High School here, and many friends will wish her much happiness in her wedded life.

**Mrs. ROBERT STEWART, formerly of this town and sister, Mrs. CHAS. BETTS now residing in Brookline, Mass. is visiting friends here.

Mrs. ERNEST GILBERT (nee Miss GEORGIE WOOD) of New Glasgow is visiting in town.

Private JOHN WALL formerly in the employ of the Oxford Foundry and Machine Co, who has seen much service for his country in France is in town. Welcome back Jack!!

Private CHARLES BLACK, a son of Mr. & Mrs. S. G. BLACK, is spending a few days with his parents. Private BLACK is a fine looking soldier and we understand is in the 6th Special SERVICE.

TUPPER EMBREE, formerly of this vicinity, now residing near Swift Current, Sask has been visiting here. He returned on Wednesday, HERMAN WOOD accompanying him.

DEATH
The sad news was received of the death of Mrs. Wm. OXLEY, Jr. in the Canadian West, Mr. & Mrs. OXLEY and family of 5 children have been living on a ranch property near Regina. A son WILLIE is living with his grandmother, Mrs. Wm. OXLEY, Sr. in this town. The deceased will be remembered by many people and was popular for her bright and pleasing manner.

OBIT - Mr. J. J. REID
Mr. JOHN JAS. REID passed away on Friday evening, Feb. 22 in the 61st year of his age, after a long and distressing illness from asthma. The deceased was a son of the late JOHN and ANNIE GILLIS REID. 25 years ago the deceased had married Miss ANNIEA. McLELLAN, of Portapique, Col. Co.

For 13 years they resided at Portapique, after which they removed to Pugwash where they have since made their home. Mr. REID is survived by his mother, now in her 88th year, his wife and one daughter, WILLENA M., who is teaching school at Pugwash Jct. and one son, MERELL L. at home. A foster son, JAMES A. GILLIS, who has served in the trenches was gassed a short time ago and is now in hospital in England. The deceased was an Oddfellow having joined "Gladstone" Lodge, No. 80 at Bass River in 1899. After his removal to Pugwash he transferred his membership to "Crystal Wave" Lodge.

The funeral was held on Tuesday and was very largely attended. Rev. A. LUND conducted the service at the home. The hymns "Safe n the Arms of Jesus" and "Now the Laborer's task is O'er" were sung. Owing to the inclemency of the weather the burial was postponed until Wednesday when interment was made in the Gulf Shore Cemetery. The Oddfellows conducted the service at the grave. The hymn "Nearer My God to Thee" was sung and Dr. W. V. GOODWIN, V.G. and W. F. SUTHERLAND, chaplain, read the burial service.

DIED
At the Halifax Infirmary, on Friday, Mrs. A. BURKE. She was formerly Miss FLORENCE TARRIO of Amherst.

At Upper Victoria St., Amherst on Monday morning, BENJAMIN BOWSER, aged 81 years.

At Church St., on Monday, Feb. 4th, Mrs. FRED CROSSLEY.
