Calhoun County, Mississippi, was established by legislative act of March 8, 1852.  The first board of supervisors met at Hartford (later called Old Town) in May, 1852.  Porter A. Davis, Lawrence Brasher, Christopher Orr, John Hunter, and James McCrory were members.
