Among their possessions was this wooden trunk which remains in the Schake family. Note carved inscription 'H Schake Nord America' on front of trunk (top photo). Also carved on the trunk is '38' (not visible). The H with the 38 designated their home address as Number 38, Humfeld. Kurt was the village blacksmith and probably hand crafted this trunk to include the strap hinges on the back and the handles on each end (shown following). The notched-fitted corners of the trunk are visible on the bottom photo.
